Description:
Length: 30 cm Plumage general yellow to
orange. Periophthalmic ring white, dark grey in A.s.auricapilla and light
grey in A.s. aurifrons. Greater wing coverts spotted with green. Larger
flight feathers dark blue with green on the outer side. Tail olive green
turning blue at the tip. Under tail coverts green, spotted with yellow.
Bill: dark grey Legs: grey Iris: brown
Habitat:
Open forests,
palm groves, savannah country.
Nutrition:
Seeds, nuts,
berries and fruits.
Breeding:
Season will
start in February for A.s. solstitialis.
Add. Notes:
The members
of a pair are very close and preen each other's plumage. Suns that
are hand raised and have limited interaction with other birds tend to a close attachment to their
keeper.
